Git Git Waterfalls
Lovina locals will tell you that, just down the road, there are some beautiful waterfalls. If you take your car, you will find that this “short drive” inland, actually goes up a mountain for about 45 mins, with the road in varying degrees of repair, all kinds of slow moving traffic and a gezillion bends, with locals overtaking blindly on each one. After going on this road I swore I would not be heading back the same way.
Eventually arriving at the parking lot for Git Git Waterfall you will be greeted by some official looking natives who offer to guide you around the falls area.
There are 2 or 3 waterfalls, depending upon who you listen to and most people will tell you that the best ones are impossible to find alone.
I paid for a guide for 150,000IDR which promised to take me to 2 waterfalls, including the “entrance fee”. Seemed fair enough.
The second, and more difficult waterfall was indeed impossible to find if you didn’t know where you were going. When you get there, it is so deserted, you can swim under the falls itself or in some pools near it. The water is freezing and the current very strong, but still good fun if you’re brave enough.
The main waterfall is actually directly down a flight of steps with big arrows saying “waterfall” and lined by souvenir shops. The trinkets, including wood carvings, knitting, dresses, paintings are all extremely cheap if you’re into shopping.
This waterfall is really easy to find and the “entrance fee” is just 5000IDR, so now the need for a guide is questionable, together with the price.
However, the guide was a pleasant fellow who pointed out all kinds of plant life around the area such as a Vanilla tree and various Coffee plants which you would never know otherwise and waterfall 2 alone was worth the guide price.
There are a lot of steps to go down, even to the easy main Waterfall, and remember you will need to climb UP them on the way back.
